These Terms govern the use of the Tableside platform by three categories of registered party: Diners, who reserve seats at shared tables; Venues, being the restaurants and private chefs at which those tables are held; and Hosts, who attend and conduct an evening on Tableside's behalf. Registration in any capacity constitutes acceptance of these Terms.
Sections 1 to 6 apply to Diners, Section 7 to Venues and Section 8 to Hosts. Section 1 defines terms used throughout and applies to all parties, as does Section 9. Monetary amounts stated below are the amounts currently in effect on the platform, and may be amended under Section 9.
A Tableside dinner gives rise to two separate and independent amounts. They are defined here and are used consistently throughout these Terms and across the platform. They are not at any point combined into a single figure. Fees and penalties arising in the circumstances described in Sections 3 and 4 are additional to both, and are defined where they arise.
Where a charge to the registered payment method is declined, Tableside may re-attempt it. The amount remains due, and the Diner is required to provide a valid payment method for it.
Membership is optional. The membership fee is $79 a month, billed monthly in advance. Membership may be cancelled at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for, and the Diner retains the benefits of membership until that date.
Membership covers the Seating Fee. The Restaurant Cost is always yours. A member is not charged a Seating Fee for up to 4 standard tables in each billing month; a further standard table in the same month is charged at the Seating Fee then in force. A seat that is cancelled does not count towards that number. A member is granted access to newly released tables 24 hours in advance of non-members. Premium tables may carry a separate charge, which will be stated before a reservation is made. Membership does not include, reduce or offset the Restaurant Cost in any circumstances.
A Diner may relinquish a reserved seat at any time. The consequences of doing so depend upon the time remaining before the dinner, the Venue having by then incurred costs in preparation.
Cancellation within the window will in no case cost the Diner more than non-attendance.
A fee for non-attendance is charged only after Tableside has considered the Host's record of the evening. The Diner may dispute that record, in which case the fee is reconsidered before it stands. Where a Diner recorded as not having attended had already submitted a receipt for the dinner, neither that receipt nor the fee is charged until Tableside has decided which is correct, and only one of the two is ever charged.
Where Tableside cancels a dinner, all charges levied in respect of that dinner are refunded in full. Membership fees are not refunded on that account, and loyalty credit already accrued is not withdrawn.
Each Diner, the Host included, is asked for the receipt issued to them by the Venue in respect of their own order, about an hour after the dinner begins, and may submit and confirm it, and add a gratuity, as soon as they have it. Separately, the Host submits the bill for the table and the Venue is asked to accept it. No Diner is charged before the Venue has accepted the bill: a receipt confirmed before then is charged automatically once the Venue accepts, and one confirmed after is charged when it is confirmed. The Diner has 24 hours, from the later of that request and the Venue's acceptance, in which to submit their receipt, add a gratuity, or raise a query.
The amount charged is the amount on that receipt. Tableside reads the receipt submitted and presents the amounts so read to the Diner, who must confirm them before any charge is made. Where the Diner states that those amounts are not what their receipt says, the reading is discarded and a further submission may be made. A Diner may make up to five submissions; where none produces an agreed reading, Tableside ceases to ask and no charge is made at that time.
After five unsuccessful submissions the Diner may instead enter the amounts shown on their receipt — food, tax, service charge and total — which Tableside reviews against the submissions made. Where Tableside accepts the amounts entered, the Diner is charged those amounts together with the gratuity described below, and no administrative charge. Where it does not, the amounts entered are disregarded and the Diner is charged as a Diner who did not respond, under the deadline provision below, save that no administrative charge is added.
The Host is asked for the receipt issued to them for their own order in the same way as a Diner, and everything in this section applies to the Host’s own seat as it does to a Diner’s. The bill the Host submits for the table establishes the table’s total; it does not set what the Host is charged.
A gratuity must be added at the same time as the amounts are confirmed, and cannot be added afterwards. Confirmation authorises the charge, which is made at once or, where the Venue has not yet accepted the table’s bill, as soon as it does.
Where a bill is held by Tableside for checking because no readable receipt was submitted, no charge is made while it is held and no administrative charge under the deadline provision below is added to it. A gratuity of 20%, calculated upon the amount then determined, is added and remitted to the Venue; no further amount is added.
For the purposes of the provision below, the bill is divided equally between the Diners seated at the table unless the Host apportions it otherwise, which the Host may do to reflect what each Diner ordered. Any apportionment must account for the whole of the bill, and may not be altered once the Venue has accepted the bill. A Diner who submits a receipt is charged the amount upon it; what a Diner who submits none is charged is set out below, and is an equal share of what the receipts submitted leave unclaimed rather than the Host’s apportionment.
A Diner accrues credit equal to 5% of expenditure on food, applicable to a subsequent dinner. Credit is applied against the Restaurant Cost and is limited, per seat, to 20% of the food element of that seat, and in no case to more than the amount of that seat's own bill. Credit carries no cash value, is not redeemable for cash, and is not transferable.
Credit is also awarded for completing a post-dinner survey and, subject to Tableside's approval, for sharing an evening publicly. The amount of each is stated at the point it is offered. Tableside may additionally credit an account at its own discretion. Credit awarded on any basis is subject to this Section.
A Diner may generate a personal invitation link. Where a person creates an account through such a link, each of the two Diners becomes entitled to one dinner at which the Seating Fee of $30 is waived. No Restaurant Cost is waived in either case, and each Diner remains liable for their own.
The entitlement of the Diner who created the account arises upon creation of that account and may be applied to their first booking. The entitlement of the Diner whose link was used arises only once the other Diner has attended a dinner, as recorded by the Host of that dinner, and does not arise where that Diner does not attend.
An entitlement under this Section applies to one standard dinner only and not to a dinner designated premium; one entitlement may be applied to any one booking; it carries no cash value, is not redeemable for cash and is not transferable. A Diner may hold more than one such entitlement, one arising in respect of each person who creates an account through their link and attends a dinner. Where a booking to which an entitlement was applied is subsequently cancelled, the entitlement is restored.
Tableside's standard commission is 10% of the food subtotal only. The Venue retains 90% of the food subtotal and the whole of any tax, service charge and gratuity; Tableside takes no part of those amounts. Where Tableside and the Venue have agreed a different rate, that rate applies in place of the standard one and prevails over this Section. The rate applicable to a dinner is the rate in force when the bill for that dinner is first prepared for settlement, and a subsequent change to the rate does not affect it. No fee is payable by the Venue in advance, and no marketing or listing fee is charged.
Amounts due to the Venue are remitted by Tableside following settlement of the dinner, that is, once every Diner seated at the table has been charged. Remittance is made to the connected payment account nominated by the Venue and is subject to the payment processor's own disbursement schedule; a first disbursement to a newly established account may take approximately one week. Tableside does not control that schedule and states no date as firm. Where a seat at a table has not been collected, no part of that dinner is remitted until it is. Where a charge is reversed by the Diner's card issuer, the amount attributable to that seat is not remitted.
At the conclusion of an evening the Host submits the bill to the Venue. The Venue is required to accept it, or to state what it considers incorrect, within the period Tableside specifies in its notice. A statement of what is incorrect returns the bill to the Host for correction, and may be repeated as often as is necessary. Where the Venue does not respond within that period, Tableside may accept the bill on the Venue's behalf, and will record that it has done so.
Where an amount charged to a Diner in respect of a dinner is refunded, the corresponding proportion of the amount remitted to the Venue for that dinner is recovered from the Venue.
The Venue shall issue to each Diner a receipt in respect of that Diner's own order, in addition to the bill presented for the table.
The Venue is responsible for maintaining accurate service hours, covers and capability information, and for the accuracy of the bill presented at the conclusion of an evening. Tableside may suspend a Venue's access to the platform, in which event the Venue may continue to sign in and will be informed of the suspension.
Seating Fees do not form part of a Venue's earnings. They are charged by Tableside to the Diner in respect of the reservation and are at no point remitted to the Venue.
A Host is not paid by Tableside for hosting an evening. No fee, salary or share of any charge is payable to a Host, and Tableside operates no payment account on a Host's behalf. A Host is instead credited the amount stated in the Host's invitation for each dinner they conduct. That credit is applied against the Host's own Restaurant Cost at a later dinner; it has no cash value and cannot be transferred. Where this position changes, these Terms will be amended and Hosts notified.
A Host attends the dinner and orders as any Diner does. The Host is charged the Restaurant Cost for their own food and beverages, calculated as it is for a Diner. Tableside's commission applies to the Host's own food as it does to a Diner's; it is deducted from the amount paid to the Venue and is not charged to the Host. No Seating Fee is charged for the Host's own seat. Section 4 applies to the Host in respect of that seat exactly as it applies to a Diner, including the consequences of not responding before the deadline. The credit provided for above is awarded in place of, and not in addition to, the credit provided for in Section 5.
Registration as a Host confers nothing by itself. An application is recorded as pending and gives no capability until Tableside approves it. Only an approved Host may be invited to a table.
A Host is invited to a table and must either accept or decline the invitation. Opening or viewing an invitation is not acceptance. An invitation left unanswered is reported to Tableside, so that another Host may be approached.
A Host who accepts must attend at the time and place specified and conduct the evening in accordance with Tableside's guidance. At the end of the evening the Host must record which Diners attended, submit a photograph of the bill, and confirm the amounts shown. The Venue is paid on the basis of those records, and the Host is responsible for their accuracy. Each Diner is charged upon the receipt that Diner submits.
A Host may decline an invitation, giving a reason, at any time before the dinner begins. A dinner that has already begun may not be handed back. Tableside may withdraw its approval of a Host at any time.
A Host who also holds a Diner account remains subject to Sections 1 to 5 in that capacity. Hosting an evening does not entitle a Host to a free meal.
Tableside may amend these Terms. Where an amendment introduces a charge, increases an existing one, or otherwise materially affects the amounts payable by a Diner, a Venue or a Host, Tableside will give notice of it to the affected parties before it takes effect. Other amendments take effect on publication.
An amendment has no retrospective effect. A seat already reserved is charged the Seating Fee that applied when it was reserved; a dinner already held is settled at the commission rate that applied when its bill was prepared; and a membership already paid for runs to the end of the period paid for on the terms then in force. An amendment to the membership fee applies from the beginning of the next billing period.
Continued use of the platform after an amendment takes effect constitutes acceptance of it. A party who does not accept an amendment may cease using the platform and, where applicable, cancel their membership under Section 2.

Where the Diner submits no receipt before that deadline: the unclaimed portion of the bill shall be divided equally among those Diners who have not responded, and there shall be added to each resulting share an administrative charge of 10% in respect of Tableside's handling of the matter, together with a gratuity of 20%. The aggregate amount is then charged to the Diner's registered payment method. The gratuity is remitted to the Venue; the administrative charge is retained by Tableside.
Both percentages are calculated upon the Diner's share of the bill and not upon one another. Submitting a receipt within the period specified avoids both charges, and permits the Diner to determine any gratuity themselves. The division of an unclaimed portion is an apportionment and not an itemisation: it does not depend upon what any Diner ordered.
